David Sadigh, Founder & CEO of Digital Luxury Group, said Louis Vuittons weak first quarter had a lot to do with China being over-sold the brand. Brands from different segments ranging from Chanel to Coach or Burberry are continuing to grow. The Chinese market is still developing. In order to stay ahead of the game, brands must have the ability to adapt (and) reduce the risk of brand saturation. In the case of Louis Vuitton, LVMH has already shifted gears, putting the brakes on its global expansion, while raising prices and developing more leather upmarket products, he said. This years China World Luxury Index shows Chinese consumer interest in the luxury fashion segment is mostly fixated on 10 global brands. After Chanel and Louis Vuitton comes Gucci in third place, followed by Hermes, Coach, Prada, Dior, Burberry, Giorgio Armani and Versace at No. 10.
Delphine Arnault on June 25 was named executive vice president of Vuitton, with responsibility for overseeing its product lines. Shell be the No. 2 executive in a unit that accounts for half of LVMHs pretax earnings, evidence that shes being groomed for a top jobperhaps the top jobat the Paris-based luxury giant. While Vuitton is still the worlds most valuable luxury brand, its losing ground to competitors such as Gucci and Prada ( 1913 ) as demand wanes for the iconic LV monogrammed handbag. A report last month by consultancy Millward Brown Optimor estimated that Vuittons brand value declined 12 percent over the past year.

The catwalk impact is one thing and very important but the best designers make you want to grab a garment, turn it inside-out to try and figure out how the damn thing is made. Thats what I mean by intriguing. It should make you want to learn more. The trouble is that so many designers today create clothes purely for their immediate visual impact. Of course, some people do that very cleverly look at the visual play of Miuccia Pradas spring 2011 multiple multi-coloured stripe sweaters on style.com. Thats no coincidence. Oddly enough, the words Miuccia Prada used to describe her womenswear collection that season, Minimal Baroque, were echoed by Dior Homme designer Kris Van Assche today (thats just an interesting aside). You got the feeling Riccardo Tiscis Givenchy was just playing to the crowd the crowd of baying, rottweiler-branded fans, rather than the fashion crowd. There was a mixed reaction to his print-heavy offering. Some saw it as a commercial goldmine, but I dont think anyone, honestly, could see it as fresh, new or really exciting.
Welcome To Poland’s First Louis Vuitton Store: “Open Your Bag Please”
According to the Sanford Bernstein sell-side research firm, Vuitton handbags generate a half of the operating income of the LVMH, and a revenue of 7.4 billion euros per year. That’s seven times more than Poles spend per year on luxury goods in total (excluding cars), according to KPMG. Nevertheless, the Polish luxury market enjoyed a 50% growth during 2000-2010, increasing much faster than the global luxury market, which is currently worth 210 billion euros. “The Polish market recorded a solid rise, but that is not the only element we take into account,” Eggs says. “Demand and potential are also important to us, and the latter is quite big in Poland. About 30% of luxury labels still arent available here.” No discounts, no sales Eggs is not keen on talking about prices, although he reveals that the cheapest thing in the Warsaw shop is a calendar refill 149 zlotys (35 euros). The lowest price for a bag is 2,100 zlotys (492 euros), while the most expensive piece from the exotic series made of python, ostrich or crocodile leather goes for more than 85,000 zlotys (19,920 euros). When I ask how many of those bags they hope to sell, he answers: 2,700 BMW cars were sold last year in Poland. Thats quite a lot considering the price of these cars is 50,000 euros. Fifty thousand euros for a car is not the same as 20,000 for a handbag, I point out. Ask women.
According to a report from the Dallas Police Department, the man made his way into the mall before 6 a.m. by breaking a window with a small hammer. He did the same thing to get into the Louis Vuitton store. After taking three handbags worth about $10,000, a witness saw him leaving in a white or cream, two-door Dodge car, police said. Investigators hope surveillance video will help lead them to the suspect. KDFW FOX 4
