Though she has a sweet-as-a-button appeal, corsets , metallics and playful hems are all part of her style rotation. Fortunately, it looks like that fearlessness has paid off with a new gig as the face of Louis Vuitton . The actress stars in the fashion house’s autumn/winter 2013-14 campaign, which focuses on two new handbags, the W and the Capucines. Sporting wine-colored lips, dark brows and her signature cropped haircut, Williams looks particularly edgy in the Peter Lindbergh-lensed shots wearing clothing from the fall collection. It’s certainly a far cry from the young girl we met on “Dawson’s Creek.” Of course, this announcement isn’t too surprising — remember how great Williams looked in her show-stopping Louis Vuitton gown at the 2012 Oscars? This partnership is also particularly noteworthy, since it marks the star’s very first major fashion campaign. (Williams did star in the Band of Outsiders lookbook back in 2012, though.) You can catch her new Louis Vuitton ads in Marie Claire France on Aug. 2 or wait until they hit September and October fashion magazines Stateside.

Investors were concerned that Louis Vuitton’s growth was running out of steam after enjoying more than two decades of annual increases above 10 percent, driven by a rapid expansion around the globe. The stock in industry leader LVMH (LVMH.PA) rose as much as 5.7 percent – their biggest one-day gain in more than three years. LVMH Chief Executive Bernard Arnault, France’s richest man, said in January that Louis Vuitton’s slowdown was voluntary and the brand had put the brakes on opening new shops to preserve its exclusivity. At that time, Arnault publicly admitted for the first time that Louis Vuitton, LVMH’s biggest contributor to profits, was at risk of being too ubiquitous. To counter that perception, Arnault said the brand would move upscale and expand its leather bag offering while pruning its portfolio of LV-embossed canvas bags which make up two third of its business and generate gross margins of around 90 percent. LVMH Finance Director Jean-Jacques Guiony on Friday said Louis Vuitton’s margins rose in the first half, both at the operating and gross level, reversing a decline which analysts estimate started two or three years ago. “People feared that less canvas and more leather could impact Louis Vuitton’s margins,” said Exane BNP Paribas analyst Luca Solca. HSBC calculated that Louis Vuitton’s operating margin fell to 42 percent from 44 percent between 2011 and 2012. RELIEF Sales growth at LVMH’s fashion and leather goods division, of which Louis Vuitton makes up 75 percent of sales, doubled in the second quarter to 6 percent from 3 percent in the previous three months on a like-for-like basis. “It is a relief that there is an improvement in the second quarter and that the margin (at LV) stopped deteriorating,” said Zurich-based Andrea Gerst, who helps run the Julius Baer Luxury Brands fund with 417 million euros ($551.92 million)under management.

LVMH shares jump as Louis Vuitton calms worries
With skipper Dean Barker back on the helm after Saturdays breather, on Sunday the Kiwi team grabbed the lead on the first reach leg against Luna Rossa Challenge and never looked back. Emirates Team New Zealand led by 7 seconds at the first turning mark, 35 seconds at the second turning mark and 1:35 at the third turning mark on the way to a 3:20 victory. After Sundays victory, Emirates Team New Zealand exercised its option to skip the Louis Vuitton Cup semifinals and advance straight to the final. That decision ensures a semifinal match between Luna Rossa Challenge and Artemis Racing. Artemis Racing first day of sailing on the Big Blue. (Photo: Sander van der Borch/Artemis Racing) Barker told a press conference in San Francisco on Sunday that the team had thought about how to use the time between the end of the round robins and the final. We weighed up whether to race the semifinals and get more race practice on the course but not knowing if Artemis would be ready to start, against spending more time on developing the boat. Without going into detail, Barker said a number of subtle changes (some cosmetic) and improvements in various components should make us significantly faster around the course. Barker said the team would not race against Artemis on Tuesday, the teams last scheduled round-robin match, opting instead to use the time to work on the boat. Artemis Racing is back sailing the teams AC 72 , following a fatal training accident in Maybut has yet to start a Louis Vuitton Cup match. The team says that it intends to compete in the semifinals, marking August 6 as its target date for racing. Jill K. Robinson is an award-winning journalist and adventure seeker. Tickets to go on sale for Louis Vuitton Cup Semi Final beginning Tuesday
The contrast of her blond pixie cut and milky skin against the dark handbag and dress definitely add an extra dramatic flair. Michelle pops another pose. (Louis Vuitton) In another photo, the “My Week With Marilyn” star channeled her blonde bombshell alter ego as she tossed a Louis Vuitton bag over her nearly naked body and shot a come-hither look at the camera. Once again, she let her eyes and pouty red pucker do the talking. This campaign is definitely a departure from the way we’re used to seeing the 32-year-old actress, who is regularly spotted with minimal makeup and flowery mom-appropriate frocks. Nonetheless, she looks stunning.
